This course covers principles and practices for using performance assessments in second language (L2) assessment. In L2 assessment, productive language skills such as speaking and writing are measured through performances that require students to produce language, orally or in writing. Performance assessment has been steadily increased in language assessment for both academic and professional purposes. Planning and administering a performance assessment requires an assessment developer to consider many factors, including tasks, raters, and scoring criteria. This course aims to introduce the complex interrelationships of the factors and encourage students to develop their own performance assessments.
